Es Trocadors is Formentera’s northern Peninsula and it reaches up to almost touch the island of Espalmador. It is made up of dunes, white beaches, and sandstone formations. It is surrounded by clear shallow waters. These attributes attract visitors from Ibiza who come from the day on their yachts.

Port de la Savina takes its name from the fact that this natural harbor used to be a busy port that exported sabina pine. It was also used to export salt. These days the port is pretty much dedicated to shipping tourists in and out, but it’s name recalls its heritage.

Prehistoric sites on Formentera indicate that there were people living on the island four thousand years ago. Throughout history people have been attracted to the island: the Phoenicians, were followed by the Carthaginians, who were then followed by the Romans. Even though there is no natural water on the island it has its attractions. The island was called Ophiusa by Strabo, a Greek geographer, a name designed to suit an island teeming with lizards.

In this article we are going to take a look at Formentera Island’s port of La Savina. There is plenty of hustle and bustle here during the summer months with people arriving from all over Europe. Since there is no airport on the island this is where everyone arrives and leaves from. There is the Hotel Savina Formentera if you want to stay near by the marina, and this is especially handy if you will be doing a lot of sailing.

Beijing, also known as Peking, is the seat of China’s politics. With a population of 17 million, it is the second largest city in China after Shanghai. The city is built with numerous railways, motorways, seaports and a modern airport to facilitate the movement of its citizens, visitors and the goods they produce. Travelling to the city has been made easier because of these developments.

The Platja de Mitjorn is Formentera’s longest beach and runs along its southern coastline. Although Mitjorn means midday I would advise against sunbathing in Formentera’s midday sun, unless you have plenty of sunblock. Some say that the beach is five kilometers, others eight, it depends where you measure it from, but either way it is one of the longest on the Pine Islands. The most common measurement is from Es Pal Mas to Es Copinar. The strip is clear of buildings for the most part.

If you are traveling to Formentera from mainland Spain then you have a few different options. You can take a ferry from the ports of Alicante, Barcelona or Denia, or you can take a plane to Ibiza, and then take a connecting ferry from there. Whichever route you take you will end up at Formentera’s port of La Savina. From Ibiza Town it is a thirty minute crossing through the Es Freus channel. It is usually a very calm crossing, although it can be a bit rocky if the winds are up.
